Flute stuff intro
I've been playing flute since around october 2024, though I've been involved in music and instrument stuff since 6'th grade.
Back in 6th grade, I was entering my school's band program and didn't know what instrument to pick, so I asked my brother "Hey, what's an instrument that would be fun to play?" and he responded with something along the lines of "You should go for the french horn, it's a really cool but easy instrument!" ...
It was not an easy instrument at all!. I despised it but I got pretty good for a 6th grader. Then covid19 happened and I temporarily quit the band for my 7th grade year. (I have asthma so my parents took covid very seriously) I rejoined band in 8'th grade but with a severe lack of skill and horn knowledge. Anyway, I was pretty much like that through my entire time on the french horn, underskilled.
Despite how much I hated the french horn, I still loved the community provided by my band and most of my high school friends were from band. (my closest friend is actually attending college with me too!) By my early junior year, I knew that I wanted to continue being involved with the music community into college and I knew that since college wasn't too far away, that I'd need to either keep suffering on the horn in college, or start learning a new instrument immediately. I chose to drop the french horn and start learning flute!
I started to learn flute sometime in october 2024, I knew that I couldn't just jump straight into playing flute immediately, so I chose to self study alongside badly playing french horn so that I could join for my senior year and not lose time with the band friends of mine.
I spent a bunch of time practicing flute every day. It was 1 and a half hours every day (7:30pm to 9:00pm). I kept that up for slightly under a year with almost no skip days... somehow. It amazes myself to this day how I kept that up for so long. I also got help from one of the flutes at my school. She was really cool, though we never really became close friends and we haven't talked in a while.
